Kohei (Bussan) is a former high school baseball player dying from cancer. He is soon told that he only has six months to live. Knowing he only has a limited time he decides to make the most of it. But where to begin? Bussan and his fellow baseball friends are put through several awkward situations as they encounter a series of problems. A group of baseball players by day and a “skilled” group of thieves at night. Funny enough many of the problems they face are solves through stealing. Although Bussan is haunted by his terminal illness he continues to enjoy the time he has left with his friends.
First of all I’d like to say that this series is defiantly not for everyone. It would probably help if you are a fan of baseball but only to a certain extent. Although the series is based around the baseball theme it is more concentrated on random events that unfold throughout the story. Theres allot of slapstick humor in this series that may put some people off and to top it off the jokes and content are formed around Japanese culture. If there is one thing that would make this series enjoyable would be the unique plot time line. What happens is that as you watch each episode the story is told in one perspective however towards the end of the episode there is a quick rewind and recap of what happened in another perspective. In other words you see what happens twice but from different view points. What makes this great is that it strings together the plot. By allowing you to see the second perspective you are shown how the events unfold and hence the whole thing makes sense. Although this concept isn’t completely new to the film world its nice to see these kinds of special touches within live-actions. Again I will stress that this is not for everyone, it is likely that you will become tired of this series after the first episode or two but then again it really does depend on the individual.
