After a great disaster that devastated Tokyo there is but one surviver. Masane Amaha a kind hearted woman found at the epicenter of the catastrophe who had survived unharmed. What had protected her was what is known as history’s greatest weapon, the Witchblade. Many have had the opportunity to use the ultimate weapon throughout history however much of its power and capabilities remain hidden. Although having lost her memory and gained tremendous power, Masane is more interested in being with Rihoko of whom she sees as her own daughter. However the peaceful days of the two are soon put into turmoil as Masane is forced to fight against those who wish to obtain the Witchblade. On the other hand whilst conflict may not be in the best interest of Masane, whilst the Witchblade is active it brings blood thirst and draws its user to seek formidable opponents.

I thoroughly enjoyed Witchblade and all that it had to offer. The animation was nice, and the plot was quite interesting. However it never seemed too special. But then I found out that it was actually based on an American comic book series. This intrigued me, as I had noticed some signs of this when first viewing the series, mainly the big bust size of the characters and Masane’s transformed state as being similar to Lilith from the Capcom’s Darkstalkers series. When finding this out it was based on a comic it all made sense. The transformation of the Witchblade comic book theme into an anime is done very well. Although I guess it did help that the plot is completely different and the only resemblance towards the comic book series is the weapon itself. I would have probably appreciated the series allot more if I had realised the history behind it however nevertheless its a nice series with all the anime elements you would expect.
