After dropping out of university Sato Tatsuhiro started to live his life as a hikikomori. As a hikikomori Sato remains a prisoner in his own room fearful of an evil organization NHK (Nihon Hikikomori Kyokai). However one day a girl named Nakahara Misaki appears and attempts to rid Sato of his paranoia and lack of social skills.

The status of being a hikikomori is a prevalent problem in Japan. This fear commonly develops during schooling where bullying forces a child to eventually drop out of school and isolate him or herself within their room. The anime deals with this serious issue light-heartedly with comic representations of the NHK. It has its funny moments but it isn’t hilarious. This anime is defiantly not for everyone. I enjoyed this series as I have a decent interest in Japanese life and culture. In its genre the anime is defiantly very well written and animated. However if your out to find a comic series about “otaku’s” I would suggest looking at Genshiken.

I agree its my fav for 2006. Was an awesome series but I understand how some may find it boring and not to their liking.

Some found it boring but i like slice of life genres. Have you read the manga? seems like satou is actually taking drugs there… mmmm…

Haha i love this anime Satou didn’t take drug haha he just an Hikikomori (it mean like to people who stuck themself in the room afraid to face another people)

Actually, in one of the later chapters, Yamazaki and Satou took Acid or Exctacy.

First volume of the manga, he was snorting on some “legal (?)” drugs he had bought over the internet.

in the novel he took legal drug too XD. it’s so funny how messed he thinks at times.
