Hakuoro our protagonist is a mysterious masked man who has lost his memory. Suffering from amnesia he is taken in by two girls and their grandmother. Although not knowing who he is Hakuoro is soon accepted by the two sisters Aruru and Eruru. After settling down in their village he soon finds that behind the peaceful environment the village and many others alike are being oppressed by a greedy and merciless emperor. There hadn’t been much hope in speaking up against the powerful emperor however now that Hakuoro has appeared the villagers are given the opportunity to revolt against the country’s emperor. However what lies ahead are multiple obstacles that must be overcome in order for peace to be achieved. As a leader Hakuoro must fight through these hardships so that he may protect his new found family and friends.

Utawarerumono is set in a world with conflict much like feudal Japan. As you can see from the screen shots the inhabitants of the world isn’t human but instead a kind of a mix between a dog and a human. The character design is quite nice and the plot is quite well structured. As the series progresses you learn more about Hakuoro and his past. However what is revealed seem far fetched, however this is a series based in a fantasy world. With regards to the action you do get a certain amount however I would say that this series is more plot based rather than a beat em up. Some may appreciate this series more having read the manga or played the game of which this series is based upon, however even having done neither I still quite enjoyed watching this series.
