After taken into foster care Syaoran helps his father on archaeological excavations. Whilst developing a personal interest in archeology Syaoran is keen to follow his foster father during explorations of ancient ruins. Despite coming from an ordinary family Syaoran has gained the friendship of the princess of the Land of Crow Sakura. However unfortunately before her love could be confessed Sakura’s once dormant powers take hold of Sakura and attempts to take her away from the ones she loves. Knowing she will be taken against her will Syaoran stops the kidnapping however the wings that were on Sakura’s back disappear. Having lost her feathers that carries Sakura’s memories her life is put in danger. This is where the journey for Syaoran and Sakura begin. With the assistance of Kurogane a ninja and Fai a powerful magician the four travel through dimensions in order to return Sakura’s memories. However in order to travel through these realms they take the assistance of Yuuko the dimensional witch. In return each of the travelers are forced to give up whats most precious to them. Unfortunately even if the feathers are returned the memories of Syaoran within Sakura had to be traded for the opportunity to travel.
I enjoyed watching this series especially because of the appearance of famous Clamp characters such as Chii from Chobits, Sakura and Syaoran from Cardcaptors and Yuuko with her assistants from xxxHolic. You don’t get to see well known characters in a different series very often. It’s kind of like watching your favorite actor appear in another series. But what made me like this series was really the concept of dimensional travel and seeing the same character taking upon the same role. Just like in Sliders if many of you may remember, even if a person you met in one dimension was a good citizen within another dimension the same looking person may have completely different characteristics. For those Clamp fans out there this is one of their best works, if you have the time you should give this series a go. For those who have no idea who or what Clamp is you may want to try something else but if you like adventure and don’t mind a change in animation style from the conventional you can still give this a go. Although this isn’t the best thing out there because you get to see well known characters created by Clamp the past success with the characters sets a good foundation for Tsubasa Chronicle.
