Gokusen (live-action)

gokusen live

Name: Gokusen (live-action)
Genre: Comedy, Drama, School Life
Year: 2002
Rating: Must See

Yamaguchi Kumiko is the heir to a Yakuza clan however has always had the dream to become a school teacher. Giving up the responsibility of the next head of the Oedo Family Yamaguchi sets her sights for a position at Shirokin Gakuen. As the homeroom teacher for the class 3-D she is anything but a conventional teacher. However her class is no ordinary class either, it is a class full of delinquents with their leader Shin Sawada a boy who doesn’t trust teachers. Whilst attempting to keep her family ties secret from her students as well as the teachers Yamaguchi known as “Yankumi” by her students tries her best in keeping her students out of trouble. Her goal is to see everyone in her class graduate but this is no easy task as her students are constantly getting into trouble and face expulsion.

Gokusen live-action follows the story of the anime version. Although I usually have to say that the live-action leaves out allot of content as compared to anime I can assure you that this is an exception. Not only does it show most of the content it even adds extra content which is prevalent in the second season. The second season however is not as good as the first mostly because it doesn’t have the same classroom delinquents we are used to watching. Nonetheless Gokusen is something that should be seen by all live-action fans. The live action is very similar to the GTO live-action, however because this series is newer the set, action, acting etc are all of a higher quality. Though I must say that the GTO anime beats the hell out of the Gokusen anime, but when it comes to the live action the two are on par. I’m sure many of you have or will enjoy this series so if you haven’t seen it give it a try.

This is the first J-live action series I ever watched, and it’s tons of fun (and even quite moving, at the end of the first season). This is pretty much every teacher’s/youth worker’s/youth minister’s fantasy come to life. :) The show is rather formulaic, though, and you can see the formula wearing thin in the second season.

I agree with Mike and probably most of you out there, the series is awesome but the second season is certainly a let down but the first season is worth watching for all drama fans out there and especially for those gto live-action fans who just want more.

hhaahaha, i remember watching it and laughing my head off with ojou. She’s definitely very cute and I enjoyed it when it lasted. I did agree with the two that it got a bit wearing thin….Oh well :)

it is the first jdrama i saw and i love it. i vowed that if i will someday get married and have children i will surely make them watch this movie. There are a lot of things to learn from this drama. I love yangkumi. In 2006-2007 new year i endured 3 hrs of jpop whose songs i can’t understand all bec. yangkumi was the host.
