Name: Mai-HiME
Genre: Action, Drama, Mecha
Year: 2004
Rating: Must See
Fuka Gakuen at first seems like any other prestigious school, however there have been rumors of monsters appearing and causing trouble from within the shadows. Mai Tokiha and her weak and ill young brother are transferring to this school, though generally regular students are involved with the mysterious events that occur it is soon revealed that Mai isn’t any ordinary student. The powers of a “HiMe” (Highly advanced Materializing Equipment) is bestowed upon a select few people of which gather at Fuka Academy in order to eliminate the monsters. Mai is one of those select few who hold the power to fight. However despite being able to conjure up incredible powers she is more worried about her brothers illness. With a weak heart Mai has always had to look after Takumi. However all this is just on the surface, in reality there is a much darker secret; the true nature of the gathering of those who are called Hime.

Mai Hime (My Hime) is a great series that will certainly please many. The character design, their personalities, the plot are quite conventional however on each case something a little extra is given to give its viewers the added satisfaction. Without ruining too much of the story the plot of the series is very similar to the popular Fate/Stay night series. Well if you’ve seen both I’m sure it wont be difficult to understand what I mean. With flashy action and intense climax’s there is still a sense of a comedy one may find in a series based on a dating simulator. This series has it all, fire, ice the lot. Last of off, one which is often forgotten when judging a series is the music. I find that in most animes that I see the insert songs (eg. tune that appears during a battle) is often not credited. Well I guess that would be because much of the time the tune isn’t worth praising. However there are times when a song deserves recognition and that would apply with this series. For those of you who have seen it I’m sure you know what I mean and for those who haven’t you will once you have seen it. I have always liked those up-lifting “latinish” opera songs that appear every now and then, sometimes its bad but it certainly wasn’t the case with Mai Hime. I’m sure most anime fans have seen this series but if any haven’t this would be a Must See in my books.
