Lucky Star follows the lives of a bunch of school girls attending high school in Japan. The centeral character Konata Izumi is an athletic and intelligent girl however has the personality of a lazy otaku. With her interest buried in anime and video games she doesn’t take much interest in socializing or anything else. The series was originally a four panel comic strip by Kagami Yoshimizu but was serialized due to its popularity. When the series was released it generated allot of attention due to its opening theme that featured a catchy tune and a nicely choreographed dance much like the ED of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

I think like most of you the OP was what caught my attention. Again we have the lead character voiced by Aya Hirano and again we have a catchy song featuring Hirano as the lead character. Except this time the op is somewhat different, its more upbeat, more catchy, more fast paced and most of all its like the dancers are all on crack. Crazy as it may be I’m sure many viewers have become addicted to it just like when they were all hyped up about the Hare Hare Yukai opening. The series itself has its moments of humor but the comedy displayed leans more towards an Azumanga style. The characters are portrayed as cute school girls going about their own business. Similar to Azumanga and Ichigo Mashimaro it may be the cute factor that is grabbing the attention of viewers. Personally I prefer hilariously funny content like in Fumoffu but this series does have its moments. The direct references to popular video games, Otakuism and general daily life are what captured my interest. The jokes featured are ones that people can relate to which is what makes this series great. This is one of the better releases this season so if you want something fresh and new this may just be your best bet.
