I actually quite enjoyed Simoun, especially because I found that the characters had very stereotypical personalities. I definitely think the mix of styles, concepts, and setting glued me in, especially with the Dio and the Guild aspect. Nice recommend. It's a lot less yuri than you'd think from the cover art or first ep, and the story is quite good. Many have said it's similar to Last Exile (which is on my to-watch list now).
