The human race has split into two groups the Earth Alliance (Naturals) and Zaft (Coordinators). While the Naturals hold their ground as being the origins of the human race, natural and untainted, the Coordinators on the other hand are genetically enhanced beings. Although similar in many aspects to the Naturals the Coordinators are far superior in intellect and physical strength. Heliopolis is a resource satellite belonging to a neutral nation however is attacked by Zaft. The reason for the attack was that there were Atlantic Alliance research and Gundam mobile development on this satellite. Although successful in seizing the newest Gundams Kira Yamato a coordinator living on the satellite manages to take control of one of the mobile suits. Being reunited with his old friend Athrun Zala, Kira learns that his friend has joined the Zaft forces. Despite being a coordinator himself Kira fights to protect his friends and prevent bloodshed.
In my opinion this is probably the best mecha anime out there and I’m sure many people agree. The only series that would come close would be the original Neon Genesis Evangelion series which is a classic that won’t be forgotten. I haven’t seen much of the old gundam series as I never liked it very much. Though I found out that Gundam SEED is different. The story, the characters, the mechas are all well developed and designed. The only flaw in this series would be the noticeable frame repeats during action scenes but the plot quality makes up for it. Gundam SEED Destiny is the follow up series of Gundam SEED. It tells the story in the eyes of a new character but you see all the original main characters as GS Destiny is based on the events that unfold after the end of Gundam SEED. As many people agree GS Destiny isn’t as good as the original Gundam SEED and I agree but I find that both are worth watching.
