Fate stay night originated from a visual novel game by Type-Moon. Later the extremely famed eroge was adapted into an anime and manga series. The series follows the life of Shiro Emiya an amateur mechanic attending highschool. Ten years ago Shiro was of many who had their lives devastated by the war for the holy grail. Although he survives his parents aren’t as fortunate. As the burning flames were engulfing the city a man, Kiritsugu Emiya saves Shiro who is infact the son of a sorcerer who attempted to end the war. The war for the holy grail is said to be ongoing, the event takes place every sixty years or so, when it begins seven sorcerers are chosen and with their servants they fight for the the holy grail which is said to grant its owner’s wishes. The servants are reincarnations of legendary souls, these servants possess strength and battle capabilities beyond any human. Those who are summoned are classified into a class; saber, archer, lancer, berserker, rider, assassin and caster. During the war one of each is summoned and along with their masters they fight to the death to determine the winner. Though Shiro is no master in the arts of magic he wields a kind heart along with an unbreakable willpower when it comes to protecting others.

Usually I watch anime as it is being released and rarely view previews for upcoming shows however this would be one of these rarities. I had been anticipating and waiting for the release of the series after viewing the preview. The preview revealed very nicely created animation along with exquisite action scenes. I have to say the animation and fight scenes was what caught my eye however I soon realised that it wouldn’t have been possible without such a creative and dynamic story line. I always enjoy content when it holds historical references. Though the legends bought to life were quite different to what I had pictured the end product was a real pleasure to see. Though the plot is quite interesting the downside is that the history of the minor characters are left almost completely untouched. I’ve been told the visual novel contains a more detailed story and I’m sure thats the case. Fate stay night is a series that won’t be forgotten, a series that many given enjoyment to many and for those who haven’t seen it yet should go have a look.
