In the year 2010 the Britannia Empire has managed to successfully overpower and take over the country formally known as Japan. Although there are still rebels amongst the oppressed, these groups are easily dispersed with the powerful mechas known as Nightmares. Known known as Area 11 the inhabitants of the country include the British and the Japanese population known as Elevens. Forced to survive in poor conditions the Japanese have no choice but to abide by the unjust rules set by the victorious British Empire. Lelouch is a young boy with a dark past. Being half Japanese half British and having had his mother murdered at a young age, Lelouch has vowed to gain revenge in the destruction of the British Empire. As an ordinary boy attending a prestigious school Lelouch can do little, however one day he meets a mysterious girl who gives him the power of the Geass. With this new found skill he begins creating a world where him and his sister can live in peace.
After watching more of this series I find that this mecha anime is actually very well constructed. However the top mecha anime that I have seen yet would still be Gundam Seed and we all know how hard it is to top that kind of quality content wise. Code Geass has nice animation along with pretty decent action that gradually becomes better as more mecha units are revealed. Its a nice concept to have roller skate type of movement on the large mecha as it speeds up the combat and creates cool smooth fighting scenes. I have to admit I did not enjoy the story at first, it might have been because much of the story hadn’t developed yet. Code Geass is one of those anime serials out there that doesn’t attempt to hook you in on the first episode or too by devoting maximum effort in trying to create cool animation. The series is quite consistent, it takes its time in character and plot development.
