Claymore

claymore

Name: Claymore
Genre: Adventure, Fantasy
Year: 2007
Rating: Recommended

In a medieval themed world where demons prey on humans for food the only thing standing between humans being turned into a food source is a group of female soldiers named Claymores. Named after their large swords by the humans these soldiers are half human and half demon. With silver eyes that turn gold when in battle the Claymore exterminate the demons when they are called upon. Those villages who are under attack by the demons (Yoma) hire the Claymore at a high price however those who exist as half demon and half human have a far higher price to pay. Despite the Claymore being the saviors of many they are feared by the humans. When a Claymore continues to fight on the battle field their demon half will gradually eat away at the human mind thus turning a once half human being into a blood thirsty demon no different from the Yoma. The story follows Clare a Claymore warrior who saves a boy named Raki. Although she is at first unwilling to allow Raki to follow her she soon decides he can be her cook.

I’m not a real fan of the medieval setting but the action in this series seems to be very good. The story itself follows the typical “older sister protecting the younger brother” rout as seen in many other serials like Blood+. As expected the “younger boy” Raki is completely helpless and can only provide moral support to Clare. The uniform that the Claymore’s wear resemble the Knights of the era that the anime is set in which is quite nice. I’m not so sure about the eye colour changing thing but it does look cool and seems to have worked with Blood+. The series may turn out better than expected so if your looking for something new with female characters beating stuff up then this is it.

Yea the action is quite nice and the character design is done well too, they don’t hold back much with the violence so thats something extra that you get.

Clouds big buster sword is awesome and the claymore swords aren’t too shabby either. Quite a good series with lots of slashing and purple blood spewing everywhere.

gah i love this show, the design, and setting is awsome and its somewhat like elfen lied with all the female characters with shitty lives and stories, a single guy liking them, the gore (well this show isnt as gory as elfen lied but ya), the organization controlling em to save humanity, and various other things which i can’t say or else i might spoil it

Comparing this to elfen lied might scare some people off. Yes it is violent and women are the main protagonists, but there are no scenes of brutal violence against children and animals that literally made me cringe and gag like elfen. This is more of your typical sword fighting violence with some dismemberment thrown in (which is a plus not a down). The character development and storyline is very well done. The music as well as the animation is of high quality. Overall, I think this show should be filed under “Highly enjoyable” .

I agree the violence is a bonus, its much better than mass censoring hehe. I think I may add one more rating in between enjoyable and recommended as it seems that a few things I’m watching I find quite good but is just off being something really great and of coarse the must see rating is for all those unforgettable animes that you just can’t forget.

I agree with everyone here, the animation was superb, and the story development was excellent. I have to say though that the anime ends earlier and on a different note than the manga. The manga really delves into the bigger story of Clare and the organization, and even of Raki and the other Claymores. Definitely a must-read! But, for all purposes, the anime was marvelous and still one of my all-time faves. Watch it while you still can, it’s being slowly but surely pulled off the internet. ;P
