I just love it's unique way of approaching things, like jumping from past to present, present to past to let us see what happened to them, and what happened after. The show doesn't make any sense at all in the beginning like you said but that's to be expected with the time leap and all. This whole show is just a puzzle that you start enjoying more when you know more about it. I liked it the first time through I loved it the first time through and the 3rd time and on it's just orgasmic. One of it's strong point is it's fast pace. It's just gets your blood pumping but because of that it's like you said some of the characters don't get as much chance to develop because of it's very short length and it's very large cast. But I think that's what the ovas there for which expands on many of the character like my personal favorite Chane :]]] Great Work by the way This show is a must see to me.
