2x2=shinobuden

Name: 2×2 = Shinobuden
Genre: Comedy
Year: 2004
Rating: Enjoyable

When a high school girl named Kaede runs into a female ninja a friendship is created. The two held similar goals, one who wanted to pass a school examination and the other who needed to pass the ninja school exam. They met because Shinobu needed to steal Kaede’s underwear as a mission. Afterwards comes a series of weird adventures with Kaede, Shinobu and Onsokumaru her master.

Well I did enjoy this series as alot of it the content made me laugh. I can’t say this series is for anyone but those who laugh at random and weird things that don’t make sense may certainly sit back and laugh through this series. I guess the thick lined cg appealed to me, although it isn’t chibi style it certainly leans towards it. Its like those moments you find in serials like Ouran High school where a serious moment is diffused by a sudden change in animation, from a conventional style of drawing to a cute chibi art form. I guess shinobuden is kinda like always in the chibi form. Though some may see the comedy within this series as meaningless and even stupid to an extent others will appreciate the stupidity like me. After all many of us do laugh when a persons groin in injured rofl…

I usually cannot get into the Japanese sense of humour which tends to rely on repetitive jokes and sheer randomness to draw laughs, rather than wit or sattire. I suppose you would have to classify this show under that same decription, however I also think it’s the funniest anime I have ever seen – by far. No anime has made me laugh out loud as much as this. I’ve even rewatched the show around 4 times and I still find it hilarious.

The difference is that this show has Norio Wakamoto as the Onsokumaru’s seiyuu. It was like he was born for this role, simply the way he is able to say things makes them exponentially funnier. Then there is the matter of timing, which is a crucial comedic element. 2×2=Shinobuden gets it right; each joke is delivered just at the right time. It also has a lot mof parody content and self-referencial humour in relation to itself and the anime industry in general. It has it’s share of fanservice, but I find that only contributes to its entertainment value. I have never found a show I can just mindlessly enjoy more so than this; I recommend it to everyone.

Hey, great blog! I just stumble upon it from Google and really dig it! I know I am adding this comment almost a year since the last one, but I just wanted to say that I am really happy that so many anime fans are into 2×2 Shinobuden. If you guys need any Shinobuden resources, than you should check my site out, it’s basically a shrine to the show.
